Pruning techniques, Cleaning and Preparation work - 10:00 - 11:30 am

The most important part of bonsai practice is pruning & cleaning. To be able to cultivate a nice bonsai, the handling of branch structure is most crucial. When all the prepping work is done correctly, you are half way there to building an awesome bonsai tree.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Fundamental knowledge on structure pruning to get the best growth, learn times of pruning and how to handle your tree's growth based on seasons.

  • We will review all the tools you need and what the results you will get from using different tools. And how to use the right tools for the job.

  • We will demonstrate on a tree which has been left to grow throughout spring and explain how to manage the new growth.

Wiring techniques - 12:30 - 2:00 pm

Wire work is one of the most essential parts in bonsai cultivation: wiring. Learning the correct techniques is crucial for shaping and guiding the growth of your bonsai trees and building a healthy tree going forward

What You’ll Learn:

  • Introduction to Wiring: We’ll cover the basics of bonsai wiring, including its purpose, benefits, and the different types of wire used and their Pros and Cons

  • Tools and Materials: We’ll review the tools and materials you’ll need for wiring, such as wire cutters, pliers, and various gauges of wire. You’ll learn how to choose the right wire for different types of jobs. And how to avoid unnecessary damage to branches and bark.

  • Step-by-Step Demonstration: Watch as we demonstrate the wiring process from start to finish. We’ll cover how to apply wire to the branches and trunk, how to shape your bonsai, and how to avoid common mistakes.

Design Aesthetic, General Care and Aftercare - 3:00 - 4:30 pm

Cutting a tree is easy but cutting with style and vision takes practice. We will cover the basic design principles on a good bonsai design and its aftercare including fertilizing and types of spray as preventatives.

What You’ll Learn:

  • We will demonstrate good and bad branch placement in design and how to avoid common design flaws.

  • The correct care is most important practice after a restructure on bonsai, we will explain the correct general bonsai care and aftercare on trees that had been worked on or after a repot.

  • Q & As are welcome on fertilisers, soil and types of sprays to fight against insects and fungal issues.

Cancellation Policy. Bookings cancelled at least 48 hours before will receive 100% refund. Bookings cancelled at least 24 hours before will receive 50% refund. Bookings cancelled less than 24 hours will not receive a refund. All refunds will be subject to a transaction fee of $10 per ticket.
